How Should You Film a K-Pop Audition Video at Home?

Start with the instructions, not the camera

The JYP online audition notice, checked on October 8, 2026 KST, listed vocal, dance, rap, acting, and model. Vocal had no genre or song restrictions, dance had no genre restrictions, and rap could be a cover or original. Acting specified a one-minute free performance; model specified walking and three poses.

The checked notice did not show universal video lengths or file sizes for vocal, dance, and rap. Do not turn the acting instruction into a limit for every category. Read the current form for accepted files, framing, audio, duration, and upload method before making a final take.

Make a short test recording first

The following filming advice is editorial guidance, not a binding agency checklist or a description of how judges score applicants. Before recording a complete performance, capture a short sample with the same camera position, lighting, clothes, and sound setup you plan to use.

Replay the sample with headphones and through the device’s speaker. Can you hear the voice or music clearly? Is the image steady? Can you see the movement you want to show? Check the recording itself rather than judging the setup only from the camera preview.

If the sample is hard to hear, move away from traffic, fans, or other noise. Try another position in the room if echo obscures words. If the image is too dark or your face is washed out, adjust the light or position. These are reasons to improve visibility and audibility, not evidence that one type of light receives better audition scores.

Frame the performance you are submitting

For dance, a practical starting point is enough space to keep your full movement visible, including feet and extended arms. Try the widest movement during the test; avoid discovering afterward that a turn or jump leaves the frame. Follow any different framing instruction in the official form.

For a vocal or rap performance, choose a stable position where the recording captures your delivery clearly. Keep any permitted backing audio at a level where your own performance remains audible. This guide does not establish whether a particular route permits accompaniment, requires an unaccompanied take, or accepts separate audio files.

For acting or model material, begin with the verified category instruction and then inspect any further current guidance. Do not add an invented introduction, outfit requirement, camera angle, or edit sequence as though it came from JYP.

Choose material you can repeat reliably

Select a performance you have practiced enough to deliver without relying on a lucky take. For vocal material, consider whether you can sustain the chosen section comfortably. For dance, choose movement you can perform in the space available. For rap or acting, review the words and delivery before filming.

These are preparation choices, rather than guarantees about what an agency prefers. Avoid building a routine around unsupported claims that a specific genre, language, original choreography, or viral song increases your chances. Within the checked JYP vocal description, there were no song restrictions; other routes need their own checks.

Review honestly before exporting

Keep the original take. Watch the complete video, including its beginning and ending. Look for missing sound, cropped movement, accidental interruptions, and a mismatch between the selected category and the clip.

As an editorial recommendation, avoid changes that misrepresent your performance, such as replacing the recorded voice with a different take. The current instructions decide whether trimming, captions, introductions, or any other editing is permitted. Do not treat “raw footage only” as a universal official rule without an explicit instruction.

If you need to export another version to meet a stated file condition, replay that version as well. Check that sound remains synchronized and that the file opens correctly. Do not assume MP4, 1080p, a public YouTube link, or a guessed megabyte cap is accepted everywhere.

A final filming checklist

• Test lighting, framing, stability, and sound.
• Clear enough safe space for the performance.
