JYP Online Vocal Audition: Song Choice, Genre and the One-Minute Acting Rule

JYP’s published online audition notice does not restrict vocal genre or song choice. Its one-minute instruction belongs to Acting, not Vocals. If you are preparing a singing submission, do not turn that acting instruction into a confirmed vocal time limit.

This answer covers the standing online audition notice reviewed on October 11, 2026. A dated event, local audition or separate campaign may have different requirements. Start with the notice for the route you will actually use, then read its current application form before exporting or uploading a file.

Choose a song against the criteria JYP actually publishes

The notice gives applicants freedom over genre and song selection. That does not establish that a particular language, artist or style receives preference. It also does not identify a list of songs that guarantee a callback. Claims that applicants must choose a JYP artist’s song, a Korean song or a specific difficult chorus are not supported by this source.

A practical way to use the published criteria is to compare candidate songs against breathing, pitch, rhythm and pronunciation. For your own preparation, record a practice version and listen for places where a phrase runs out of breath, notes drift, timing becomes uncertain or words become unclear. This is an editorial preparation method based on the listed criteria, not an additional JYP submission rule or a promise of passing.

Choose a passage you can perform consistently, rather than assuming a difficult high note is required. The agency’s notice does not specify a compulsory vocal range, a preferred arrangement or a ranking of genres. If two songs fit your style, use your practice recordings to decide which more clearly demonstrates the qualities the notice names. Keep the final recording plan provisional until you have checked the upload instructions.

Why the one-minute rule cannot be copied across categories

The published category descriptions are distinct. Vocals describes unrestricted genre and song choice and lists vocal fundamentals. Acting requests one minute of free acting and lists vocal projection, breathing, emotion and delivery of lines. The presence of breathing in both descriptions does not make their material requirements interchangeable.

An applicant submitting Acting should follow the published one-minute description for that category. An applicant submitting Vocals still needs to establish the allowed singing duration from the current application instructions. The absence of a duration in this notice does not mean that unlimited-length uploads are accepted.

The same distinction applies to Dance, Rap and Model. Do not assemble a vocal upload checklist by borrowing a length or material requirement from another category. Read the category name immediately above an instruction and keep the application route attached to every rule you save.

Before you make the final file

  1. Open the official JYP online audition notice, and confirm that you are using the standing online route rather than a separate event.
  2. Select the relevant application category and read the current form instructions. Establish the vocal duration, permitted audio setup, accepted file format, file-size limit and required upload fields before exporting.
  3. If an instruction is absent or ambiguous, use the official contact or help route available on the portal to ask the exact question. State that you are applying for Vocals through the standing online audition; another event’s answer may not apply.
  4. Prepare the recording within the confirmed instructions and play the exported file back. Checking that the intended performance is audible and that the file opens is a practical check, not an agency promise about evaluation.
  5. Review your category, personal details and attachment before submitting. The published notice states that an audition application cannot be modified once submitted. Keep a private copy of the material and any confirmation provided by the portal.

The current application form was not inspected for this guide. Vocal duration, accompaniment permission and upload limits therefore remain unresolved requirements. No numeric singing limit or file-size limit should be added to this guide until it has a current official basis.

Eligibility and results: keep the route attached

The standing online notice states that there are no age, gender or nationality restrictions. That statement belongs to this online route; it does not prove that a separately advertised global event accepts the same applicants. If you arrive through a dated campaign, read that campaign’s eligibility instead of carrying this sentence over.

The notice also states that successful applicants will receive results individually. It does not establish a response deadline for every applicant. Do not interpret a particular number of days without a message as an officially defined rejection period, and do not rely on an unofficial promise that everyone receives an email.

FAQ

Can I choose a pop genre? The published vocal description lists popular music and pop as examples and says genre and song choice are unrestricted. This does not establish a rule about the language of a submission. Check any language instruction in the current application form separately.

Must the vocal video be exactly one minute? This notice does not establish that. One minute is published under Acting. Check the vocal application instructions before deciding the final length.

Must I sing without accompaniment? The reviewed notice does not establish whether backing tracks or instruments are permitted. Do not present either a mandatory a cappella rule or automatic permission as confirmed.

Does unrestricted song choice guarantee that any arrangement or upload is accepted? No. Song selection and technical upload requirements are different questions. Establish the latter in the current form.

Can I replace the video after submission? The published notice says a submitted audition cannot be modified. Complete your checks before submitting; do not assume a replacement upload is supported.

Is this advice valid for an in-person JYP audition? It is based on the standing online notice. An in-person event needs its own official instructions. For other agencies and routes, use the official audition portal guide.
